EAGLE RIVER and WASILLA

We travelled back to Anchorage from Kenny Lake on the Saturday and had 2 concerts in the morning at a church in Anchorage.

After lunch we travelled to Eagle River, about 20 miles north of the town, not far from Chugiac (we seemed to spend most of our time going back and forth!) The church shown here is the Community Covenant Church which was our hosts for the next few days, along with the Missionary Baptist Church next door.

The mountains behind are covered with houses, some can be seen high up the slopes.

On my day off that week, my host family took me for a drive along Eagle River itself to where the road ended, about 5 miles from town. Various walking trails lead up the valley and over the passes from this point. We just walked an easy one down to the river itself, here dammed up by beavers to form a lake. A sign told us that bears had confronted walkers on this trail the previous day, but the only one we saw was the skin in the visitors centre.
Wasilla was our last stop in the Anchorage area, some 10 days after our arrival. By this time we were getting to know the area pretty well. The photograph on the left shows the usual views around this area - high mountains, bare of snow now as the recent heatwave has caused it to melt, on all but the most shaded northern slopes.

The line of cars shown here is going to our concert at the Assembly of God Church, they had to as the road went to little else (all these cars did turn into the carpark)

The following day we headed north once more, bound for Fairbanks in "the interior", some 320 miles away.
