| At the end of the long journey
of some 335 miles from Watson Lake is Fort Nelson.
We have a concert here at
the Alliance Church, this photograph is taken the following morning as
we prepare to drive to Fort St John. |
 |
 On
the road, the scenery is pretty much the same as in Alaska and the Yukon
except that the trees have been cut back a distance from the road.
A view of the road as I see
it, Scott is driving.

 |
There are few buildings
on this section of the road, and even fewer rest stops. You have to use
what you can find. Inside there is a wooden "seat" with a roughly cut hole
in it. Don't fall in - there is a 6 foot drop into a large draughty tank! |
 Fort
St John - it's difficult to photograph as the land is so flat around here.
On the right is the church where our concerts were held, a large one seating
500 people. Fort St John, like Fort Nelson is an oil town. The wells are
somewhere out of town, but the town is full of oil companies and supply
industries.
A short journey out of town
is the Peace River which flows from its source in British Columbia, through
Alberta, our out to the sea somewhere in the north. |
 |
30 or 40 miles further south
is the town of Dawson Creek. This is the official starting point of the
Alsaka Highway, you remember - that road that ends at Delta Junction, 1422
miles to the north.
So far I have travelled about
1200 miles by sea and 4300 miles by road. |
The landscape around here
is very much like home: small fields, hedgerows, small woods and even Oil
Seed Rape!!!
|
| Let me introduce you to
Martie in a characteristic pose. This is Martie to a "T".
(his real name is Martin,
but we have two of those so one had to change) |
